The Polar Express

The award-winning book comes to life on this magical journey to the North Pole and back. Elves will read the story to you on the way to the North Pole to pick up Santa! While Santa visits each car, elves will lead you and your family in Christmas Carols and spread merriment! As in the story, we encourage everyone to wear their pajamas on this special journey. All passengers will enjoy hot cocoa and a cookie.

The Polar ExpressTM will be offered Friday, November 14 - Sunday, December 21, 2014 departing from Rockside Station in Independence and Northside Station in Akron.  The trips will depart at 7 pm for a two-hour round trip.  Matinees departing at 12 pm will be offered on Saturdays and Sundays in December. There will be no trips on November 17-19, and 26-27.  View full list of event dates/times here.

Tickets:

Tickets go on sale to the general public at 9am on October 1, 2014.  Tickets must be purchased through this website.  Scroll down for further instructions on how to purchase tickets.

Seating/Ticket Options

Everyone age 2 and up requires a ticket.  Under 2 are free, but must sit on an adult's lap. 
 
Standard Coach - $44 per person
Seats are in sections of two (2) seats facing two (2) seats.
 
Deluxe — $65 per person
Seats are in one of our Dining Cars.  All seats are at tables with chairs.  Includes a Polar Express commemorative mug.
 
Executive —$85 per person
Seats are in our Saint Lucie Sound executive car.  Only seats 20 individuals per run, offering a more private experience.  Includes a Polar Express commemorative mug.  Only available on select nights from Rockside Station.
 
Caboose — Looking for a new and unusual place to hold your holiday party?  How about on a caboose behind The Polar Express™ train out of Akron!  The Polar Express program is not available in the caboose.  For further information call 800-468-4070, ext. 221.  Limited to groups of 12 or fewer.  (Available from Akron Northside Station only).
 
Volunteers Needed:

How to Purchase Tickets:
  • Select the date you would like to ride (change the calendar to November or December and click on "Go").
  • Select the station you would like to depart - Akron Northside Station or Rockside Station.
  • The website will select your seats but you are welcome to change the selection by clicking on the seats picked to remove and clicking on available seats (white squares are available seats).
  • If you are purchasing more than 4 tickets, the website will select the first 4 and you can select the remaining seats by clicking on available seats (white squares are available seats).
  • Follow the remaining steps on the screen to complete payment for your order.  
Please DOUBLE CHECK YOUR ORDER BEFORE YOU COMPLETE THE TRANSACTION – we will not be able to change your date, departing station, amount of tickets, or offer a refund if you did not choose wisely!
 
Check to make sure it is for the Polar Express! If it does not say Polar Express, it is not Polar Express.  CVSR does offer a variety of trips and special events at this time of year. Make sure you are purchasing tickets for the correct program!
 
Check that you have selected the correct station from which you wish to depart! If you go to a station different from where you have tickets, you most likely will not be able to ride as the trains are sold out each night. Your money will NOT be refunded, nor your tickets exchanged!
 
WE DO NOT RECOMMEND YOU PURCHASE TICKETS FROM A THIRD PARTY SITE OR VENDOR. There have been issues in the past of tickets being duplicated and not valid, over-priced, etc.  If you do not purchase your tickets from CVSR, you do not have an agreement with CVSR. You do not want to be turned away at the station that night because you purchased fraudulent tickets.
 

Frequently Asked Questions:
Are there different ticket prices for children?
Passengers ages 2 and up require a ticket (there is no differentiation between child and adult tickets).  If your child is under 2 and can sit on your lap, you do not have to purchase a ticket for him/her.
 
When do Polar Express™ tickets go on sale to Members and volunteers?
Tickets go on sale to members and volunteers at 9 a.m. September 3 through September 27 at midnight. Members and volunteers will receive a code that will allow them to purchase their tickets in the mentioned time frame.  Please call (800) 468-4070 x 228 if you did not receive your code.
 
When do Polar Express™ tickets go on sale to the general public?
Tickets go on sale to the general public October 1 at 9am. 
 
What time does the train depart?
Boarding starts at 6:00 p.m. All trains leave promptly at 7:00 p.m. and the ride is a two-hour roundtrip. Trains will return around 9:00 p.m.  For weekend matinees in December, boarding starts at 11:00 a.m., trains leave at 12 noon and return at 2 p.m. 
 
Where do we park?
Ample parking is available at the stations.
 
Where are the stations?

What should we wear?
Children are encouraged to wear their pajamas – many adults choose to wear theirs, too! The cars are heated...so let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!
 
Are there gifts and souvenirs?
Please plan to come early and visit the concession car. A variety of food items, clothing and souvenirs are available for sale.
 
Do we get off the train at the North Pole?
No…all activities are conducted on the train.
 
Are there restrooms? 
Yes, there are restrooms in each train car.
 
Are there wheelchair accessible cars?
Yes, wheelchair accessible cars are available. If you have special needs, please call our Customer Service department at 1-800-468-4070 extension 1 to ensure handicap accessibility for your trip.
 
What is the policy for refunds and exchanges?
Due to the nature of the event, there are no refunds or exchanges.
 
Will CVSR donate Polar Express tickets to my event or cause?
We do apologize, but given that CVSR is a not-for-profit, 501 (c)(3) organization, and the sales from this event support the maintenance and upkeep of the train, we do not donate tickets for Polar Express. There is a charity run in which families with children helped by pre-selected nonprofit organizations are invited to climb aboard!
