Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad (CVSR) is one of the oldest, longest and most scenic tourist excursion railways in the country. It is a private sector, volunteer supported, not-for-profit 501 c3 organization working in partnership with Cuyahoga Valley National Park and dedicated to thepreservation of passenger rail transportation in Cuyahoga Valley and the historic Ohio & ErieCanalway.
CVSR tracks stretch 51 miles, south from Independence just below Cleveland, passing through the 33,000-acre national park to Akron and Canton.
Climb aboard at either Rockside Station in Independence, Peninsula Depot in the heart of Cuyahoga Valley National Park, the Akron Northside Station or, in June, July and August, in Canton. Stay on board for a three-hour round trip, or hop off and explore along the way with a visit to the Canal Visitor Center and view the history of the canal era, the historic Village of Peninsula for shopping and dining, the City of Akron and see the Akron Zoo, Akron Art Museum or one of the other attractions OR travel to the City of Canton to enjoy their venues: Pro Football Hall of Fame, Classic Car Museum, First LadiesHistoric Library or McKinley Monument.
While on board, immerse yourself in the stories and sounds of the Cuyahoga Valley through the Voices of the Valley audio tour. Hear tales about the earliest settlement of the valley, the coming of the Ohio & Erie Canal and Valley Railway, the creation of Cuyahoga Valley National Park and the return of wildlife.
Cuyahoga Valley National Park (CVNP)
Though a short distance form the urban environments of Cleveland and Akron, CVNP seems worlds away. The winding Cuyahoga—the “crooked river'” as named by American Indians—gives way to deep forests, rolling hills and open farmlands. The park is a refuge for flora and fauna, gives a sense of times past and provides recreation and solitude. Ride the rails to view the beauty of the area through the window of a vintage train car!
